A Conversation for Talking Point: What's the Silliest Thing...
Spraining a finger...

I sprained my finger in a way that made sure, nobody ever felt in anyway sorry for me.
I once went into a video-rental where, for some reason, they had this door into the storerooms, three steps down from the regular showrooms. Above the door entrance, they had shelves for videocassettes and in order to reach these, one would have to stand on the top step to the door, lean forward, support on the door-frame and stretch very far forward and up.
Don't ask me why they had it this way; I guess they just didn't have much space all in all.
And when I finally got my hand on the cassette I was interested in, it made on of the others tumble over and fall, the corner hitting the thumb on my supporting hand. YAY!
I left the shop without renting anything, my thumb hurting. Soon after it was swollen and purple and, after long considerations, I went to the doctor who had it x-rayed. And sure enough, it was sprained.
After the first five or six people gazing strangely at me when I told what had happened, I changed my story to simply "I fell awkwardly!" and refused to debate the details.
But the truth is, I sprained my thumb and was incapable of using it for several weeks, by toppling an empty videocassette-box onto it in a rental store!
