A Conversation for Talking Point: What's the Silliest Thing...

I once managed to staple my two thumbs together when reloading a stapler. I coudn't reach round with my fingers to pull it out, so had to remove it with my teeth. I then had to go around the next day with an identical plaster on the same place of each thumb and felt pretty silly when recounting my story when anyone asked what I'd done.
I'm now very carefull to watch where my thumbs are when I close the stapler...

As a youngster, I wondered what would happen if I jabbed a staple into my thumb.
Guess what?
It hurt like hell and bled like crazy.

I did that too! In my case, however, it worked in my favour, since it earned me a day off school (I missed my lift and it was much too far to walk)

It was pretty much the same for me, except I was squeezing the little part that holds the staples whilst I was wandering around the internet, mostly to have something other than clicking and typing to do with my hands. I must have squeezed too hard or something, because I heard a click and suddenly felt like something aweful had bitten me. It was stupid, but my friends got a kick out of it. I do now, too.

Same thing with me...I was putting up a bulletin board display for the teacher I work for, and I needed to reload the stapler. When I pushed the top back on my thumb got under it, and *cha-chunk* I had a staple stuck in my thumb.

I just knew I should have avoided a forum with such a headline...
Do you know these grimm little things for staple removing? A double tong kinda thing that neatly lifts the staple "legs" and allow harmless removal of staple?
Well, never ever insert one piercing point of such one into left index finger, not even if you - as I was - are in a hurry. Hurts, feels stupid, causes paper to be bled on. (One usually removes the staples in order to keep the paper, not bleed on it.)
Never managed to staple myself though.

Well I'm glad it's not just me that's done it, I can slightly less silly as I tell my tale now.

A theory:
Seven out of one thousand people in the Western World have tried to staple themselves.
One in six of these, still carry scars. Either on stapled limb or on soul!

There was an article in some newspaper, a few months back, talking about all the accidents that can happen at work. Funnily enough, staple self-stabbing was included!

Personally I've always feared those automated staple-machines that can shoot a staple clean through 25o pages...
Imagine what such a thing could do to a hand!
