A Conversation for Bagpuss' Canadian Adventure Part III - PARTY TIME

Standing..?

The CAC CONTINUUM - The ongoing adventures of the Committee for Alien Content (a division of AggGag)

You have jogged my brain and dislodged a load of dust covering memories of the standing bit in the Halleluha Chorus. It's sorta poking out at me but I don't quite recognise it there among the clutter of trivia my brain contains.
If you have a moment maybe you could refresh me on this strange legend of appreciating the Classics. Something to do with King George arriving late or leaving early wasn't it...?
BTW: I'm really glad to see you're enjoying Canada and have found all the good pubs and some countrymen-and-women to share them with. By now you'll have found that Canucks generally abuse or avoid the true pleasures of the Pub.

Ooops ..I was still logged on as AGG/GAG, after doing some H2G2Post entries (that's where I was reading your travelog), and I forgot I wasn't me.
But I really was.

Bagpuss

Ooh, another chance to show off.

Basically, when the piece was performed for King George III (you got that much right), he leapt to his feet at the start of the Hallelujah chorus, possibly because he liked it, but rumour has it that he'd fallen asleep and was startled by the loud noise. Now, when the king stood up, everyone else had to stand up too, including the musicians, which must have made it difficult to keep playing. smiley - smiley
