I can sympathise with most of the sentiments expressed above; I'm currently a member of an employee representive body involved in consultation over redundancies following one of the larges IT mergers in history (sic)!
I believe that What is needed is a Hitch-Hiker's guide to this highly emotional area; I probably have a lot of 'mostly useful' information buried in my head, which ought to be shared. Perhaps between us and the Union Rep, we could put something together which bridges the anectotal and spleen wrenching, with the practical and defensive!?
Just a thought,

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
