Bassman A Potted History Of My Rise To "Fame?"
Created | Updated Jan 3, 2003
I've been asked what sort of music I play with the band, here goes with a bit of history:
I started playing in 1980, but didn't have any great public
success until the middle of 1992, when I played a couple of gigs
with a band called CLOSING TIME, the last of which was my own
farewell party, on leaving Wiltshire and moving to Scotland.
In February 1993 I joined a band called ALL THE KING'S MEN,
playing lots of original material on a rock theme, and a few old
time faves such as "Get Ready" and Baker Street". I was forced
to leave because I couldn't "GO" with the band when they made it
big. Where are they now!!
In 1994, I played with CUSTOM SHED who were a weddings and
functions type of band, doing purely covers. The set was littered
with "Blues Brothers" and "Committments" numbers. I realised
that my heart was in ROCK music, so I left to form BARKING MAD.
BARKING MAD played all sorts of covers, originally started as
a purely rock oriented band, playing "AC/DC" "Deep Purple" and
"Guns and Roses" etc, we went on to play some "Seal", "Roxette"
and all manner of good stuff that other bands in the area just
weren't doing. Eventually three of the four of us were made
redundant, so that was the end of "Barking Mad".
Having moved south, I joined STRANGERS in January 1999, once
again playing rock covers. I'd known the guitarist, Stu for
years. The band is centred in the East Midlands and besides
playing pubs and clubs, we do bike rallies as well. Great
fun. Thanks to the Woz Wolf MCC for making us so welcome for
the last three years.
If any of you have seen any of these bands drop me a line.
