I think given the expansion of h2g2, the OAPs should really include all 5 digit researchers, or at least those of us that feel like we've been around foreversmiley - laugh

I like Pastey's idea of 5-digit researchers...or anyone under 60000, or...?

u-numbers are only vaguely related to signup time. I think 3 years would work quite well.

I'm trying to think when the U# moved from five to six digits.

The biggest problem would be with researchers who have a bad memory, and have created several accounts since they joined because of lost passwords etc. - this scheme awards longevity of account, rather than longevity of researcher... smiley - erm

Post 10

Pastey

True. But if a researcher could remember what the U# was, surely they'd be able to confirm membership?

In the early days, researchers might not have always realised how approachable the Italics were... Plus, in order to post a request for help, they'd have to open a new account anyway as you can't post to a thread unless you're logged in. Most just copied their space over to the new U#. smiley - erm

Post 12

Pastey

Yeah, but remember in the early days, there weren't really any Italics. Not in the sense that we now know them.

I remember when Yoss turned up at the first ever h2g2 meet up, and people were wondering who he was. But when he got out his tdv credit card at the pub afterwards, well, how he made friends.
