Hi
Just wondering id anyone is having problems getting letter to their long distance loved ones?
My bloke has been in kenya for 2 months now and keeps writing and telling me that he hasnt had any letters from me, I have sent him sooo many and now am worried incase thay have got lost or stored away so that he wont get them in time. Now he is feeling like i have forgotten him.
Dunno what else i could do? He is in the forces so i would expect the BFOP mailing service would be good and get things there, but letters are taken up to 3 weeks to get to him....

I understand how you feel! The guy I was previously dating was overseas and it took forever before he finally started getting my mail. Do you know any of his family that might possibly be sending him mail? Find out if he's getting their mail either...that's the only thing I know of that you could do except wait it out.
I'm sure he doesn't think you've forgotten about him. He probably thinks about you more than ever right now, and he probably knows you're doing the same about him.

If you write anything on the outside envelope other than his formal address and your return address, it is probably having trouble getting to him. They are very strict about that!!!!

Right, thanx for that. I had never thought about that. I guess the postal system at the mo is pretty strict?! Do you think that the postal rate could have an effect too?... I used normal airmail envelopes and paper, and 1st class stamp. Am begining to think i had not put the right amount of stamp on some of them?!

It should cost the same amount of postage as anything you would send in the US (that's what I was told when I was sending mail), so postage shouldn't be a big problem, plus you probably would have gotten it back. Maybe it's just EXTREMELY slow...I hope so!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that mail gets there.

He's in Kenya. You need to pay airmail rate, which is currently 80 cents. That's what happened. I'm surprised your letters haven't returned to you with a stamp in red ink explaining that!!! Oh wait.... he's STATIONED there... Herrrmmm.... I'm with Casey then...

If you're worried about postage, you might want to think about bringing one of your letters to the post office to find out if it *is* the proper postage you're putting on your letter. I know when I send letters to my parents in the West Indies, it sometimes takes 3 weeks or longer to get there.
I've also stopped abbreviating anything in the address, because sometimes they're misread as well! My mother's friend abbreviated West Indies as W. I. and the letter ended up in Wisconsin! And by writing St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the letter has ended up in St. Lucia or Grenada! Careless mistakes by people like these sometimes cause long delays. When they were rebuilding the post office on Bequia, they found 3 letters for my folks that had been sitting there for a year or two. You never know!

That's typical! You're in the UK, and a bunch of Americans come around to give you advice about postage!
D, my folks were soaking in the sun for the winter in the West Indies!

Hardly! They do it all on a shoestring budget (whatever that means ). They found a little island that isn't covered in resorts or anything, and rent a small house for about $425 a month! That about half of what I pay for my dinky apartment in the cold! I wanted to point out that my folks don't make enough money in the course of the year to pay state taxes. Just to show that you can still have fun if you're willing to compromise a bit!
