49% sounds far too high to me.

The percentage won't translate itself into seats, though. The ITV poll last night had the Liberals and Labour equal behind the Tories on about 29% each (iirc), but this translated into something like 233 seats for Labour, and 89 for the Liberals.

One thing it may show is that people who weren't planning to vote - young people especially - may now turn out to vote for the third party. Even if their choice doesn't get in, it can only be good for democracy that more people get involved in the process.

Polls fluctuate wildly. What is interesting is that people are interested enough to speculate. I agree with Icy that it can only be a good thing that people talk and debate. There's been too much stagnation and it's nice to see people actually believing they can make a difference with their vote.
