Beth's Car

In Nova Scotia where the nights are hard

And there's endless snow and rain and rain and snow

A flying refrigerator landed on a car

That was minding its business by the side of the road,

To the detriment of each party.

This was witnessed by a three-legged cat

Who suddenly wondered where everything's at,

And is now in therapy.

But what was a refrigerator doing in Nova Scotia? I hear you ask.

It must have been some smooth-talking salesman from the USA

Who sold refrigerators to the Eskimos

And on his way back home decided to make

An extra buck or two selling to the Nova Scotians

Who, although being legendarily canny

Were, compared to the Inuit, easy.

But what is worse is that the car

Belonged to Beth, Muse of Poetry, star,

Who no longer could literally drive mere males, mere poets

To distraction and helpless attraction

Or action, until she got her car fixed.

Her reaction

Must have been at least a bit mixed.

I expect she's in some pub for the duration

Drinking JD and champagne

To ease the pain

And quell the strange sensation

Of having your car destroyed by a refrigerator

Just when you were planning to use it later.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
