The first house I remember living in was a small cul-de-sac development which still looks rather posh to this day. The afternoon I remember was during the summer of the Silver Jubilee. I was daring enough to ride my bicycle down the road without stabilisers. I thought I was incredibly gown up and proud as I nodded to people on the other side of the road as I peddled. I soon lost my balance and came flying off scratching my leg to ribbons on the road. I remember picking the bike up, pretending I was fine, smiling through clenched teeth as I walked my bent bike home. We had guests that afternoon and I was too proud to go inside with my bleeding leg so I jumped on the flat roof and stayed there all afternoon.

Brilliant little vignette OllieP! We admire your young stoicism and the poignant image of you, bloody knees and all, alone on the roof. Lovely post. Thank you for sharing your memories
