My "art is embarrassing" moment came when we saw a ballet of Midsummer's Night's Dream in Budapest. The scene between Puck and Titania was sexy. A man in the row in front got up and said "I didn't come here to watch pornography." Was it pornography? I didn't think so. But it made me think differently of Midsummer's Night's Dream. Having read it at school, I had never realised how full of sex it was!

I love your conclusion,"It ain't art until it takes us away from here". That's all very well for the audience but for the poor artist, painting in his garret (or pounding his keyboard), surely art is hard work?

MVP, I once saw a student production of 'Midsummer Night's Dream' (at the same university where Tennessee Williams went, so Serious Stuff) in which the fairies were into chains and leather, so I can imagine steamy there.

Sure, it's hard work. It's supposed to be, ain't it? Or why do it? But hey, even in my garret I get moments of being there...okay, my garret's on the first floor and looks out over a parking lot...but you know what I mean...

I usually write until I make myself laugh or cry. Then I say, 'Well, maybe there's something here.'

I look out at a suburban street where nothing happens between the school run in the morning and the corresponding one in the afternoon.

Over here, if it isn't the Mexicans fixing a car for the 100th time, it's the neighbour's little girl 'borrowing' Sasha the beagle for a walk...and then the squirrel starts mocking my cat, and the birds start auditioning for 'X Factor'...

Never a dull moment.
