Who will be the new Who?

Christopher Eccleston has quit. it is no surprise as i read in a tv paper he wasn't a fan of the series before, and he never really seemed committed to the role to me. I also blame the BBC for not signing him on to at least 2 seasons or 3 seasons.
so now the question is, who will be his replacement?

In case anyone's missed them.

Would you really want an unenthusiastic lead actor phoning in his performance for a contractually-obligatory second and third season?
I agree this isn't great news but it has its' positives too. Always assuming that they get the casting of the new Doctor right (but then isn't that always the case?).

Totaly Agree Spook.
only a stupid Exec Producer would miss a second provisional hold on an lead actor for a second series. I think it was a stich up and he was never going to do any more from day one.

you see what i've been hearing is that it was possibly planned from the beginning that he would only be there one season as Davies wanted to bring in the concept of regeneration earlier, which i think is a big let down from him to the fan community. they should have cast an actor who was actually a fan of the show and would be committed to at least 3 years. how can we as fans be expected to invest ourselves in to this version of the doctor if he isn't gonna be around?

Or, more importantly from the BBC's point of view, why should we invest in merchandise featuring someone who's a lame duck Doctor?
(Not pleased about the possibility the new show is going to be shovelled full of obscure continuity from the various existing merchandise lines either, if last night's story is anything to go by.)
Key: Complain about this post
