Mister Matty

I thought it was pretty poor. The "ghost" voice-acting was silly and the plot, which was rather too similar to "The Unquiet Dead" anyway, failed to engage me. The only interesting thing was the character stuff about Owen and Tosh's death and even then that felt bolted-on.

Yeah, not brilliant. I realise that Torchwood has never been about the accuracy of the science, but the amount of technobabble sits awkwardly alongside the reality of the LHC.

The technobabble was fine (even welcome); there's always a place for talk of "reversing the polarity" in the Whoniverse. The problem with the story was the lack of an engaging plot and the derivativeness of the one we had.

It should be on the iPlayer until at least Wednesday night - that's how I listened to it.

Hi all! smiley - bigeyes

Radio 4's Big Bang Day aired a Torchwood audio adventure to mark the occasion and, having listened to it, can recommend it. You can download it via Realplayer as an MP3 file, or listen on line without the BBC iPlayer via QuickTime. Hope this helps smiley - ok

It was...OK.

I laughed out loud at one particularly inept line of dialogue:

SPOILER (I suppose)

SPOILER

"Look! An anti-proton beam!"

They could at least have said "Thank goodness we got the anti-proton working" or "I've always wondered what an anti-proton beam would look like." Or anything. Those are pretty ropy lines of dialogue, but I think "Look! An anti-proton beam!" will now become my 'worst ever line of dialogue', overtaking "I hate sand, it's so hard, but you... you're so soft" (or words to that effect) from Attack of the Clones.

Martha's conversation with Jack about his feelings was similarly bad. As was Jack's speech about the fabulousness of humanity, which skirted very close to Ecclestone-Doctor territory. Pah!

Still, it wasn't terrible. But in terms of radio dramas, it was not good.

Yes, but it was fun. smiley - bigeyes I never take technobabble seriously, mainly because I'm an ill-educated philistine and deliriously oblivious to scientific theories or poor scripts, which tends to make the little things in my mundane life more enjoyable. smiley - cdouble

Now *that* bit I did like, and made me laugh in a 'that's funny' way rather than an 'I can't believe the scriptwriter wrote that' way. smiley - smiley

Ianto does have a certain air about him, doesn't he. Smart, but dumb too.

He gets some great lines. Quite dry, that boy.

NPY

Yeah. Want him to smile a bit more though. And would love to see him in casual clothes sometimes too instead of always wearing a suit.

New Toorchwood - 10th Sep!!!

Post 34

eloisa

Oh no! The suit is important to the buttoned down, uptight exterior that is thrown into relief by the twisted sense of humour!!

Well he needs to relax even just for once.

I think he does, we just don't get to see that as it is a little too adult!
