Oh. Fair enough.
Oddly, anti-plastic worked for me but I felt the same way as you about the 'ghostbusters' thing in AoG.

"next to the resurrected Battlestar Galactica, the resurrected Dr Who looks a bit poo."
This is exactly the reason why I'm thinking of withdrawing my membership with The H2G2 Doctor Who Group and not discussing "Doctor Who" on here with anyone ever again.

I think its the 'negativity' thing, Roymondo.
It doesn't bother me overmuch because the discussions on H2G2 tend to be a far more lighthearted affair than on other forums.
Comparing BSG to Who is comparing ducks to grapefruit anyway. Under RTD, Who has discovered lighting and set design - which it didn't always get to play with, really. Whereas the revived BSG has discovered the steadicam shot (amongst other things) and battered-but-functional technology, like the Rebels had in Star Wars. The two shows, that have common dramatic ground, approach their subject matter from hugely different angles and approaches.

I did go on to say that I love it, just not unreservedly!
Watching Love & Monsters at the moment, which is better than I remembered it. Probably because I know that it stays quite 'domestic'.
And it's always nice to hear a bit of ELO.

I don't know what the budget is for the current run of BSG. 'Who' is about GBP 750,000 per 45 mins (best figures I can find).

What I mean is I want to withdraw membership with The H2G2 Doctor Who Group because I don't like criticism of "Doctor Who" because I think it is one of mankind's crowning achievements, up there with the invention of the wheel, the discovery of fire, the first landing on the Moon and all the other glorious achievements of the human species. I think it is the greatest show in the galaxy (no pun intended) and all other TV is drivel by comparison. While I will admit that the revived series is not exactly perfect, I think Russell T. Davies has done a fantastic job of bringing back a series which hasn't been on air for 16 years and retaining all it's themes, style and intelligent, thought-provoking stories. So naturally I find criticism of "Doctor Who" both slightly unfair and hard to take.
Also I don't agree with 99.9% of what is said on h2g2 about "Doctor Who" and to be honest I find some of the things utterly moronic, like one person said "Can that stupid laser pen do absolutely anything?" (referring to the sonic screwdriver being able to cut through the rope ladder in "The Age of Steel" and bring about the demise of the Cyber Controller). That person obviously doesn't understand that the "laser pen" actually uses high frequency sound waves to achieve certain tasks and cutting through the rope like that is scientifically plausible. Sometimes I read posts on h2g2 about "Doctor Who" almost with disgust over how fans of "Doctor Who" can discuss it like they do.
So that's why I don't want to discuss it on h2g2 anymore.

Traveller in Time trying to find what power source the sonic screwdrver could be using
"I think it is for each his own, I like the plausible, or as the Doctor says 'This is impossible' about the sphere between dimensions .
Others like the soap part of the story, or the detective or the CGI. It is totally up to the viewer what they wish to see.

Hi Traveller! - You know, I'm pretty sure the sonic screwdriver runs on the same stuff that makes the Tardis run. Mine works on several of those teeny circular batteries and has so far proved hugely useful at work.
Cyberhuman, I know how you feel. It can be hard to see people criticise something you really enjoy and not feel downhearted. On the other hand, you have to realise that people will want to express their opinions and some of these are going to be negative. Sometimes, like Roymondo was saying, it's small elements that stand out of an otherwise great show. Take heart. As I said above, H2G2 is relatively tame and troll free in comparison to Other Groups. I think its just how fandom rolls, to coin a phrase.

Hello
You know i think that if people don't like something there going to criticize it even if it has good qualitys, at least thats what happens over here in the U.S.
Scifi did cancel Sg-1 partialy because of Doctor Who being so popular but there are tons of other factors.

And if people do like it they'll critisize the bad qualities. It'd be silly to avoid mentioning the negatives even if he positives outweigh them.
