A Conversation for Smudger Snippets: A Trip to the Dentist

Ouch!

I could feel the pain as I was reading that Smudger smiley - grr. I have been seeing the same dentist since I was aged about five and recently he has gone from NHS to Private, mainly due to the amount of paperwork involved. I did not want to change dentists as I am used to him and I don't get as anxious as I would if I saw a different one.

I had a routine filling to be sorted, which I had done a couple of months ago. The problem was, when he started drilling he discovered the cavity went right through the top right side of my teeth! He had to drill and fill three of them as he started, which was a two and a half hours in the chair! He cancelled his mornings appointments and I had to go back to have the last two done about three weeks later. My back killed!

It did not show up on the x-rays as it started in between my teeth and was very deep. Luckily my mouth was numbed by about four injections the first time, which had to be increased to about six as the pain was terrific when he drilled.

When I was at work I was that rushed and stressed out, I would eat anything from about ten chocolate bars a day! I was a chocoholic! Well, it took me a long time after the breakdown to ease myself off them. A bit like an alcoholic! I now have about one a week as a naughty treat, but my dentist said the damage and decay had started from back then and only just started to show.

I am all drilled and filled for about four months now, until the check up/scale is due. Drilled, filled and emptied of cash smiley - laugh.

All the best.

Hi Helleborus a.k.a. Nigel, Many thanks for your post, it sounds like you went through a hard time at the dentist as well! I was lucky to get registered at all really, as I had been told that no dental practices were taking on NHS patients at all, but they did, which was handy for me as I was in a lot of pain at the time.

Glad you liked the Snippet, its always good to receive feed back on them, as it makes my day, thanks again.smiley - winkeye

What a gruesome story, Smudger. I've been through a lot with my poor teeth, but nothing like what happened to you. No wonder you had a panic. Glad it all went well this time. smiley - smiley

Ah! thanks for that, it did bring the bad memory if it when I was writing it. Just as well it was a long time ago, and I was only 18 at the time.smiley - winkeye

smiley - cheersSmudger.
