I did it 23 years ago!
What's more, I was smoking a cigarette at the time and killed it in the ashtray. That was my last one. The pack had one more cigarette in it and that pack stayed there on the lounge table for three months until a friend ran out and smoked it.
Just beware the substitute trap - chocolate isn't good for you either when you eat one every time you feel like a smoke! I still have not been able to shake the extra weight I put on when I kicked the habit...
The first hurdle is to decide you will give up - that you seem to have taken. The second hurdle is more difficult - deciding not to start up again! Even a puff on someone else's is starting up again.
Make a contract with someone else also giving up. For every day that you take to start again, you will pay them the price of a packet a day for the period until you start again. That way, the longer you give up, the more expensive it is to start up again!
May the force be with you - you CAN do it!

Can I add my support for a smilely, and like the add says, "it won't happen overnight, but it will happen>
I pleaded and pleaded for a smiley and they finally listened and now see how useful it is....

WR for the support
I DO want to give up and I am well on the way to succeeding. I have my Nicorette (is that how you spell it) inhalator at the ready for Saturday morning and work will be much more come Monday so I should be able to cope with the pressure of work.
Work are being really supportive and head office have said if there is anything they can do to help, just shout!!!!
P2. Thanks for adding your support to the biker smiley. A long running episode I agree. Oh well. We can only try.....and try.....and try.....and try....until in the end they will either give in or ban me from posting!!

Can't do that just now - I'm picking up both my feet due to a 111 single Nelson score at the cricket...!

Smiley Smiley, we want a smiley
Can't stop to chat, hope you're all well, good to see you're still about, guys
(WR, you don't happen to know someone who moved to Australia with his family, plays guitar and used to go to Rhodes uni (or some place like that), do you?)

Without the Rhodes Uni criterium, you could be referring to about 65% of the white male population of this country under 30 who have left since '86... Chances are good I would actually know ONE of them!
'fraid nobody rings a bell right now though, as I don't know many people of any age that went to Rhodes...?
(That's in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, by the way. A sleepy little town, full of churches, and they put on a great big cultural festival every year.)

I dunno?
It does seem rather disjointed!
I was trying to say that a bloke from SA that left for Oz with his family and plays a guitar is a rather broad category. (We have lost many young people to Oz and UK and Canada etc. recently.) Filter this with one more category of having been to Rhodes Uni and you haven't cut it down by much more.
Now if his name was Reginald Shufflebottom-Chumly, had red hair and played the bazuki - that would be different!
( No I don't know him either - did he go to Rhodes or UCT?)
