Thankyou for an interesting and reassuring article, I have one question, though -
if the likelihood of contracting anthrax from opening an envelope full of white powder is dependant on how the envelope is opened, what is the safest way of opening an envlope?

Well, it depends on how you treat the envelope...
I'm not entirely sure. I don't get much snail mail myself, I tend to rely on email. I only say that after seeing it on BBC news, that this method was highly user dependent. I also saw the training session on the same news broadcast of what to do when you do find powder in the envelope. Certainly don't panic and start shaking it everywhere and in co-workers faces screaming 'OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!'
Maybe this could form the basis of a collaborative guide entry....
