The Acrostic Poetry Challenge : Storms
Created | Updated Mar 13, 2010
The Acrostic Poem has been a long-standing challenge, mainly between B'Elana and PedanticBarSteward. However, we've decided to open up the idea to anyone who would like to take part, as a regular poetry challenge.
The word chosen each time is the Telegram Game's current word, so if you join in or subscribe to the telegram game you'll know as soon as it's announced. When you've completed your poem, submit it by posting to a new thread below, and we'll put the best of them together in the next issue.
Have fun!
This Issue : Storms
Dmitri Gheorgheni
Sudden dishevelment of weather and mood,
Taut sheets—reef those sails.
Only the brave venture out when
Rampaging elements threaten peace of
Mind.
Stay home, why don't you?
PedanticBarSteward
Sipping my gin on the porch one day,
The air grew cold and the sky turned grey,
Off in the distance I heard the sound,
Rumbling, then felt the shake of the ground,
Mayhem ensued as God wreaked his ire,
So I went indoors and stoked up the fire.

Streaky grey-green clouds appear
Towards the horizon, looming
Over the distant purple hills.
Rumbles of thunder booming
Make the dog hide under the chair
Scaredy-cat pose assuming.
B'Elana
Stranded on island
Till the Greek Kalends
Oh just give me a book
Roasted lamb (and a cook)
Merlot for to drink
Shame the ship didn't sink.

Sailors climb the central rigging
To stow the heavy canvas.
Orders are shouted, voices go astray.
Ragged sails are gathered in as
Men slip and slide across the decking;
Stormy waters washing them away.
