Seahorses, quite fascinating. I used to find them after a storm, on the beach in New Jesey, USA. Found one alive once and kept it for several weeks. MD

I guess Seahorses are not mythical, but they somehow do bring up that connection with the supernatural for me. Like Centaurs, which are insects, I suppose.

Centaurs were really just equestrians.
That is, people on horseback as witnessed by people who knew not of such wonders. They saw the broad body and legs (oh yes, and hooves) of the horses and the torso, arms and head of the human rider. Somehow they missed the horses head...
This is at least believed to be the explanation. But I like the insectoid-explanation.
