A Conversation for Talking Point: Mythical Creatures

Mythical Creatures

To ask if Mythical creatures really exist is to ask whether a regular banana (don't get tricky on me) is blue. To say something is mythical is to say it does not exist. That's what mythical means.
To answer your question, Just because we haven't seen it, doesn't mean it's not there, if that was true we'd all die from asphyxiation. I do not naively belive in things like dragons, but I don't ignore the possibility. Of course, things like that are most probably exaggerations of frights people got when they were first exploring the world. (For example, the Komodo is described to be quite like the picture of dragons in Douglas' Last Chance to See.) Things like bad luck used to be put down to mischievious magical fairies and leprechauns, but most people know better (or think they do, I wouldn't know) now. I think it's nice (hopeful, maybe) to pretend, to write and read books about them, because sometimes you need to get away from reality, and it certainly is a nice break to just pretend for a few moments that they do.

I agree with the break from reality thing. However hard I try though, I personally find it very difficult to believe in fairies.

Now wyverns - there's another story.

Why Wyverns specifically?

Stories!

Ermm...*thinks*...I think Wyverns have a lot more attitude than fairies. I'm probably about to open up a whole can of worms now. They're cool in a hotch-potch type way and I would definitely want one on my side.

The fairies we have now are just cute little creatures. But the fairies of older times had some attitude. Nasty little creatures.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but what are Wyverns?

Basically, a Wyvern has two legs and a pair of wings whereas your dragon has four legs and a pair of wings. You can find one as Somerset COunty Council's website or on the Peugeot badge.

They're dragon-ish though and slightly more fab in my humble opinion.

Gryphons are different again - I think they're more lion-like.

Gryphons are half eagle and half lion. That is the front half is an eagle including wings and feet, but it has the hind quarters of a lion.
