A Conversation for Problems with TV

Hi Lucinda (et al... how is al, by the way....?)
Just to play devil's advocate....
Do you not think that TV is just another medium - or another "text" as my trendy friends in the Eng Lit department would have it? Isn't the problem that there is too much bad TV (just as there are bad books, poems, plays, films, computer games, microwave dinners etc)?
And what about TV that informs, that raises issues, that forces us to address uncomfortable stuff? All that campaigning journalism - the TV pictures that brought the Ethiopian famine to the attention of the world? Recent documentaries on asylum, and so on....
And doesn't TV create community as well as divide us? Doesn't it give us a shared culture - something to talk about - even if it is only Eastenders? On second thoughts, you're probably right....!
Best wishes
Otto

hmmm
Of course if the tv were chucked would h2g2 exist.....?
Yeah I know it was on the radio first but there's as much if not more junk on that eg Radio 1
Are you including computers as something which reduces physical activity too? Not much energy expended with thinking what to write or typing it in. Some when you go about looking for a brick to throw at it cos it won't do what you want or just lost xxx Mb of data.
