i read the book of M*A*S*H and loved it. Then I saw the film and was very dissapointed. After reading the book of HHGG I saw the TV series and was dissapointed by that too.

M*A*S*H the film was good, but in a different way to the book, which was also splendid. I think I prefer the book, but the film does have some merit As for HHGG, I think the best way to approach each of the formats is to take it as a piece of original work, not as an adaptation. The books are an adaptation of the radio plays, and the television series an adaptation of the books. All three are quite different in content and length, but each of them in their own little ways have things that can appeal to the listener/reader/watcher. I think there are very few things that can make the leap from book to screen successfully. HHGG evolved quite well, but I am still waiting to see what the film version will be like before making any true judgement. In all inevitability it will not please all, but it will work for some
Sorry, I seem to have ranted *grin*
