I'd also like to thank Gus Poyet, whose timely intervention saved me from the embarrassment of scoring nil points this week...

Hi Egon,
Couldn't agree more about Everton. It's quite one thing wanting a physical presence up front, but quite another to play a full back there. I thought SW did okay, but it would have been nice to see Joe Max Moore being given a chance. If only because it would have probably been the first time two North Americans formed a forward partnership in the Premiership....

I am often left bewildered by Walter's selections, but, unlike some sections of Everton fans, I feel that he is doing his job well, and I can't think of another manager we could get who would do better in our circumstances. I actually think SW was a very apt striker, and can see Walter's point that he didn't want to play two nippy runners (Tomasz with Joe-Max Moore or Danny) and no big man. I was actually more worried about Pistone at right back. If only Xavier hadn't been knocked out cold by our esteemed goalkeeper the other week...
Just out of interest, do you know where Amokachi is these days? I know he played for 1860 Munich last year but, according to Championship Manager, he's not there now. Now there was a temperamental genius!!

It still astounds me that Joe Max Moore is not your number one striker. He is an excenlent all round forward. He was one of the star players in the MLS, and at international level for the United States.
However, at Everton, he never gets his chance. How about playing a
3-4-3 formation with Campbell or Ferguson as the out and out striker with Radzinski and Moore just behind at either side.

That actually sounds a damn good idea. Something along the lines of:
Simonsen (or preferably new signing)
Watson(Yes, Watson in defence!), Weir, Pistone
Alexandersson, Gravesen, gascoigne, Blomqvist (I think that's how yuou spell it)
Radzinski, Moore
Campbell
I think that could work.

I wonder whether JMM would be better as an attacking midfielder, particularly if it means we can keep the 4-42. I think he played there earlier this season (end of last?) and got some good reviews. It's not as if we've over-blessed with quality midfielders. Graveson and JMM in centre midfield??
Best wishes
Otto.

There was a game last season (which I think we won) in the middle of the injury crisis, when we had a back 3, wing backs, Gravesen and Tal in midfield, JMM in attacking midfield and Kev and Big Dunc up front.
