h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

First of all : this is *not* an Ace's official opinion or whatever. It's just my 2c. Please also note that I give my opinion about the proposal and not about whatever happened previous to it. I'm just trying to look at the future and see if this proposal would be worthwhile to implement.

I've only read this proposal three times so I may not have the whole picture. I can certainly see some details that would have to be made really clear to everyone, but as far as I can see those are(as I said) details. I understand that some people have for instance asked for an intermediate suspension(e.g. first time = one week, second time = a month or so, third time = life ban). It might be worthwhile to check with the staff if they have fundamental objections to that. The current "a week suspension or a life-ban" may need improving as h2g2 keeps growing. Also, a week is not very long. So the chances that tempers flair again upon returning are quite high. A month might give everyone some leeway(sp?).


As for what I've read and digested so far : I think that your proposal is very worthwhile. Of course ultimately such a proposal would have to be accepted by the staff as they are responsible in the end. However, if the staff agrees to implement this proposal I would personally have no problem with it at all.

Thanks for reading, thanks for considering, and thanks for looking forward. That is what this thing is all about. I'm an engineer - I'm not very good at "well, this doesn't work", I prefer "this works *better*". My own feeling is that the other schemes under consideration have merit, but are also flawed in that they increase the work of the italics for no benefit (unlikely to be accepted) and they involve ceding of italics powers. This involves neither, and in principle could be implemented today. A few refinements may be necessary, and as you say it may have to be publicised - but on the other hand, the t&c page could simply have a link to "Sanctions" which would include this. Not a big thing to add.
