A Conversation for A Modest Proposal Version 1.3

I'll hear what other people have to say about this ... I'll want to know what LeKZ think, if they'll be okay with allowing people to give character witness statements on their behalf. This can be a general problem ... even somebody trying to defend somebody else can end up misrepresenting them. But on the whole I would say this is a very reasonable proposal, and modest enough that the eds should not find too much fault with it. How many exceedingly reasonable proposals do we have now already? I'll see if I can come up with one of my own. But this one of yours sounds good, so I'll hear what others say and based on that I'll give some more feedback, and when I'm satisfied, my support.

Please forgive this, it's long overdue...
I'm not sure that I support this proposal as is, although I might if it was approved along with a limited arbiter scheme... in other words, if this were to replace Official Inquiry, but the Arbiter scheme was otherwise adopted in full, it would be a very reasonable compromise. But, in and of itself, I don't feel that this proposal is enough. It lacks an ability to prevent synchronized jumping sessions, and still leaves the community at the mercy of jerks and flaming a**holes.

Just between ourselves...
I agree - alone, this proposal is not "enough". It doesn't make any attempt to protect the Community from jerks and axxholes (insert whichever two letters you like there ). It's purely a procedure for doing life bans. But by being exactly what it is, I believe it has the best chance of being adopted.
It's simple. It reduces Italic workload. It requires no relinquishment of Italic power. It requires no volunteers, and places no more power in the hands of the Community than there is at present. "Modest" indeed! That is its weakness. It is, I think, also its strength.
What I'm aiming for is something so reasonable, so simple, so easy to apply and so obviously fair that the question should not be "should we adopt this?" but rather "why aren't we already doing this?".
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. This proposal is a single *small* step towards what H2G2 could and should be. I just hope the Italics take it.
Thanks for your comments.
H.

I think this is a good proposal to be used IN CONJUNCTION WITH the other ones. If the bosses accept THIS, it will be a huge step forward - a foot in the door - which will help other schemes such as yours, Colonel!
