Name Fragilis the Melodical
Researcher# 136122
Page # A543395

Description My project on 'Sexual Orientation' will offer practical definitions for sexual orientation, heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality. The project will also include information on humanity's historical and cultural understanding of sexual orientation, plus a brief overview of modern social dilemmas related to sexual orientation.

This project will *not* include adult-oriented content about the sexual practices of people with various orientations. The goal is to provide enlightened understanding of oneself and one's peers, not a how-to guide.

For an example of an article in a similar vein please see Descriptors for Sexual Minorities:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A412570

Proposed Entry Titles:

Sexual Orientation: An Overview
Heterosexuality
Homosexuality
Bisexuality

I'll be seeking opinions before deciding which of the following to add to the project:

Transsexuality
Understanding Gender
Monogamy
Polygamy
How to Determine Your Own Sexual Orientation
Rude Questions Not to Ask about Someone Else's Sexual Orientation, and The Answers

Proposed Start Date 5/07/2001
Proposed Finish Date 6/18/2001

I'd thought I'd pop by to give you another poke. My project hasn't shown up on the Current Projects page for the University. I'm hard at work though, and have gotten a little help as well.

Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession

Bluebottle! I have popped by after many years, as I've been on a tear getting in touch with people long parted from. I don't feel I have the time and ability to continue with h2g2, but I retain many fond memories.

I'm particularly pleased that this section of the guide has seen the sort of sensible updates I would have wanted to add had I stayed involved. Were I doing it over, I would not leave asexuality and dominance/submission out even at the beginning. If I were to add an entry, it would be a slightly snarky one about monogamy, aka that relationship thing we take for granted and really shouldn't. smiley - winkeye

I see there's not one on transexuality still. Well, it seems the whole world is waking up to that one at last. Still, I would feel ill equipped to write that one. I daresay I could learn from someone more knowledgeable on that front. I suppose there's always more to do. smiley - tongueout

Anyway, I should thank you for keeping involved in this for so many years. I'm glad to see that this is still here and still kicking. I'm also glad it broke free from Auntie Beeb in the end. Good luck with it!

It's an important area, so I'm glad it has continued to receive attention. But yes, still room for more entries and one on that area would be welcomesmiley - smiley

If you want to see a snarky one about monogamy, then Hoovooloo's written an amusing entry over here if you've not already read it:
A852699 - Unnatural Sexual Practices
Probably doesn't count as being anything like a 'sensible update' and I don't see it getting into the Edited Guide any time in the near future, though, unless it was heavily re-written and toned down. (It has been in Peer Review and the author has smiley - elvised so could theoretically be submitted to the Flea Market).

This Project is awesome smiley - biggrin - I have read it and referred to it many times since I've been in h2g2 smiley - ok

There are Entries about transexuality in the Guide, but they haven't been incorporated into the Uni Project (I wasn't sure Gender fitted into Sexual Orientation project, but the existing Gender Pronoun Game one is good).

Hmm...
Maybe reference links at least could be added - making it easier to find related entries is always a good idea.

Reference links would be fantastic. Since sexual orientation is defined based on gender relation to self, you can't really divide it from discussions of gender in general. At least, that's my opinion. smiley - smiley

I've added reference links to the entry on Transexualism and these entries are now in the same Category as the rest of the project is located - C501 – Sexuality & Society:
A87820725 – Count Sandor Vay - A Transgender Icon
A668036 – Advice on Coming Out
A87730383 - Transgender and Intersex Olympians

Thanks for the updates <BB< smiley - ok

Yes, I agree that sexual orientation references gender so it naturally fits in with gender, but my concern was that gender does not reference sexual orientation (and indeed transgender blurs the popular definitions of sexual orientation, as if someone is not a man or a woman, but they like men or women, it's hetero in some sense, but definitely not straight...) However, the category description is good, so that makes sense within h2g2. smiley - ok
