Not to mention, as airports go, it's quite messy.
And my car battery went dead for no obvious reason there while I was in Edinburgh for a week

Messy is an understatement. It's a nightmare and I wouldn't choose it if it didn't happen to be the nearest airport.

Come to Frankfurt Hahn - it's miles from anywhere and a nightmare to get to and from!
It fought to get the name "Frankfurt" recognised - it's nearly 200 km away !

Weeze is officially the airport for Dortmund, but it's a bit in the middle of nowhere as well Used by the cheaper airlines.

Weeze is not the Dortmund airport - for cheap airlines it is/was/is used instead of Düsseldorf, and actually not really good to reach...
Dortmund airport is not bad to reach either, as is Cologne-Bonn (that is, when starting from Düsseldorf or going back there...)

confusing? okay, I'll try differently:
Best airports to be reached from Düsseldorf:
Düsseldorf Airport
Cologne/Bonn Airport
Dortmund Airport
...forget about Weeze, it is in the middle of nowwhere at the Niederrhein, it is not even easy to reach the station in Weeze itself...

Well spotted. I thought that there might be something organised for my birthday. But I can have the birthday party on the Friday and still go to Germany on the Saturday if the times are right.
So it's still possible, depending on where the meet is located.

oops, maybe i should explain that a few of us have discussed the possibility of holding the meet in the former german city of wesenberg/wesenbergh, now rakvere in estonia
