Good effort to encompass such a huge subject!
Not so sure about the religious bit at the end, I'm probably biased though as thats a pet subject for me.
I read an article in New Scientist recently, where a chap had a new defination for life, it depending totally on capacity for reproduction. He admitted that it meant that infertile women or past the menopause were therefore excluded, meaning that they are effectively dead. As a woman on birth-control I really didn't appreciate that at all!
Your defination is certainly based in reality, did you do a lot of research as it is a very contentious subject at the moment in the scientific journals.
