A Conversation for Wartime Fabric Shortages and Dior's New Look

Looking Good So Far!

Azara

Hi, knitbunny!
I was wandering around, and followed a link to your space, and saw your link to this entry, so here I am. I think this has the makings of a very good Edited Entry - be sure to put it into Peer Review when you've got it finished. I hang around there a lot, and will try and contribute some nice comment.

With regard to World War II and clothing coupons, I remember some old detective stories (Patricia Wentworth - a very 'cosy' writer!) whose lively young heroines were making evening clothes out of curtain material, which apparently was off the clothing quota.

Hi Azara!

Thank you for the encouragement, I'm really glad you think it could be a good entry.smiley - smiley I'm a bit worried it's going to be a bit long tho - it's sort of two entries in one, but I think it needs all the stuff about clothing restrictions to really illustrate the stir Dior created.

I'll try to mention about curtain fabric not being rationed and being used for clothes, but I've no idea when this will be ready for peer review - actually I'm a bit scared about offering it up for criticism, but I guess I'll just have to face my fearsmiley - winkeye

Thanks again for your thoughts!

What happened? What happened is that after a brief burst of enthusiasm I reverted to my normal procrastinate mode.

There are some people in life who need to be continually kicked up the a**e before they get anything done. I am one, and I now consider my a**e to have been truly kicked. Thank you sir!smiley - cheers

You're welcome. Now come gripe at me about my procrastinated entries.

Azara

Hi again, knitbunny!

I'm far too mild-mannered a person to go around kicking people, but I'll add a plea:

I'd love to see the finished version in Peer Review!

Are you suggesting I lack mildness or manners?
My boots are of the softest vegetable-derived leather substitute and I clean the toes often.
And occasionally I duck into phone boxes to change into my long underwear and go flying about giving free mammograms with my X-ray vision......

'Mild-mannered' is what wishy-washy people call themselves.

Wahtever else you may be, tonsils' revenge, I don't think anyone would call you wishy-washy!

yes, isn't it funny. you can say ass, ass, ass all you want but Arse gets starred up.
I read a thing, I think it was written by Mina last night talking about what you can say and what you can't and the indiscriminate and arbitrary nature of it.....

*sigh* It's such a fine word, too ... I'm sorry, but I cannot say 'ass kicking' (or any variation of) and keep a straight face at the same time.smiley - sadface

Ah, but can you offer someone a jelly baby with a straight face?
I've got a video programme of Tom Baker watching some of his episodes for the first time since they were filmed.

Oooh, how did he take it? I'd be somewhat ashamed if I were him.

Hmmm. I still haven't gotten modded....
Oh, he was very gentlemanly and gently shocked at some of the things he'd done. He was very conscious, finally, that he was going to be known for this stuff for the rest of his life no matter what he did on the stage...So he'd better get used to it.
Actually, to him, it was a job. Um, and a wife.

How come they make an exception for you?! I've a good mind to yikes it myself, nowsmiley - winkeye

I don't think Tom Baker should be upset that he'll always be remembered as doctor who. He's loved and fondly remembered by thousands, and there's not many of us that can say that.

Post 16

Tonsil Revenge (PG)

Well, he spent years refusing to have anything to do with it. In the five doctors episode they used an old clip because he refused to do it. He refused lucrative fandom bookings.
I guess he mellowed. Or changed his mind.
Of course I don't know why he wouldn't be embarrassed by the part he played in , what was it, 'The Golden Voyage of Sinbad', with Patrick Wayne playing the lead!
I understand Tom is in some kind of detective show now?

Yes, curious about that unmodded post.

Oh, and don't forget Dior's stupid bras!
Still unmodded. What da deal? Maybe it was the phrase.

Well, I've been re-reading some of my old conversations and I mention people getting their arse kicked a few times, so.... maybe someone was being over enthusiastic?

I don't know. I got modded with another guy in an exchange of personal history on another thread. Real strange.
