Dancer, done. smiley - ok

DoctorMO, we can only make a page linking to external webspace on the Beeb - there's no facility (yet) for hosting our examples. All I was suggesting was a place to store the programs we want to show off - we would still link to them from an index on the Guide... smiley - smiley

Actually, in order to load something to show off, I'll have to look at OLD backup tapes. These days all I program belongs to the company I work for.

Wold love to see/suggest/help/explore etc... all of your stuff smiley - smiley

(btw, in the first section on the Programmers' Corner page, it should say "So *we* kind of gathered up", C++ Builder comes from *Borland* with a "d" and I suspect that "projrct" should read "project". Ever the pedant...smiley - biggrin)

Well, I think we should use portland, but we can't really rely on our h2g2 nicks to be available there, so we'll do it with a prefix saying h2g2pc_USERNAME (e.g mine will be h2g2pc_Dancer)

h2g2pc is for h2g2 programmers' corner.

Any other suggestions for a prefix will be probably better and accepted smiley - smiley

Hey, Dancer. MaW suggested that we e-mail shazz and try to convince the Post people to inform the h2g2 crowd that there's a Programmers' Corner. The e-mail address is right on the front page ("The Editor"):

I belive we should get say some server space from somone with a good record, use that we'll only need about 20Meg or so, give every one in the corrner the password and hey presto we get to upload are examples, it's just a matter of finding someone or somthing to help up...

About the server space, I'll see what I can do smiley - smiley I thing 20MB is an underestimation, but we'll see what we can get smiley - smiley

I set up a couple of accounts on Portland earlier today. It's 15MB for web pages and CGI code, 2MB for MySQL databases and a 100MB/Month file transfer limit. One of the accounts was for my H2G2 related stuff, and the other was to move the website of a friend's business on to after his ISP closed his account. (It was a freebie and he forgot to log in at least every 30 days... Portland don't have that limitation, and they're happy for you to use their space for business subject to the stated bandwidth restrictions.)

So how did you call your h2g2 username? h2g2pc_peet?

I just used "peet", as I may use the space for non-H2G2 stuff too.

Favour, I know we havn't set anything up yet so... But I need some people to download my program from Tripod and tell me what they think, Oh and see if there are any bugs. but you will have to go to my 'Space' to find my Web site address.
Or e-mail me and I'll send you a copy, Thanks

Right back to the space, I don't mind Adds as long as there is no limmit to band width.

for some reason Tripod is beeing stuburn about files bigger than 1MB so... I'll email it to people until we get that server up and running, if you would like the source too just explain in the email (Visual Basic BitBlt and StretchBlt) so it's ok speed on a P75Mhz no refresh scans or anything.
