Yikes! I knew about Bush's oil interests and his supremely arrogant defense program, but I hadn't heard about Plan Colombia. As an American living abroad, and as someone interested in the environment, I find this very distressing. The worst of it is that I don't know if the Colombians have anyone to turn to, having been crapped on by the greatest superpower. They don't belong to the UN or anything, do they?
Thanks for telling me about this.

P.S. Agree with you about the war on drugs. Pointless and wasteful.

I've just looked it up, and Colombia has in fact been a member of the UN since the early days of the organisation in 1945. Whether that could do its people any good, in a dispute with the most powerful nation on earth, is another matter.
