Great entry! What can I say more?
I specially liked the historical bits you've added, like Caesar's camp being flooded and the Maelstrom myth, also the bit on the Tsunami and the kinds of Tides... This is one of those classical entries where the common knowledge - everyone knows what the tides are - is extended by gems of unconventional wisdom.
2p (I always have to say something): Would you consider linking the Gravity entry? (I wrote it, I wrote it, I wrote it).
Oh, Ooops: You have written 'centrifugal force...' Hope Hoovooloo doesn't see this (joking)
Thanks for this entry Gnomon.

I'll put in links to all the relevant Edited Guide Entries I can find, but I can't put in links to entries that have not yet made the front page, so I like to leave the adding of links to the last minute.

Excellent stuff Gnomon - cannot fault it one iota
One thought - isn't the tide at Morcambe bay in Cumbria even faster and higher than at Mont St. Michel? Not that it really matters, Mont St. Michel is a perfect example of what you meant.

I mean: 'Gravity' has been there - on the front page.

Oh my... I just went back to the 'gravity' entry to see what was already in there, and unfortunately I found this

The entry on 'Moon and the Tides' which I think would make this one redundant.
Pity,

Shucks! Next time, I'll check if it's been done before I write an entry. OK folks, forget this one. Move it to the Sin Bin pronto.

Why not add a note about this entry at the Update page?
There's some good information here that isn't in that other entry that whatshisname wrote. I think this stuff should/could be combined with the other Moons and Tides entry to make the Edited one better!

Definitely one for the Update HQ! Will be much benefit to the entry
Gnomon, how about an entry about the organ ? (Ok, it isn't used in classic music but there's a hole in the Guide!

I knew I'd seen an conversation on tides somewhere around here.. strange that they get moved to the sin bin quicker than they get indexed..
anyway great article, lots of interesting stuff, I hope the prose finds its way into the edited guide somehow.
also about tides: it was the Venerable Bede (A534764) who first realised the link between them and the moon; helped by an army of monks stationed along the Northumbrian coast. The Greeks would probably have noticed it if they hadn't lived by the Mediterranean.

Folks, how do I go about applying for an Update? Where is Update HQ?
I'll think about writing an article about the organ. I'm not in the mood at the moment.

Every time I hear mention of tides, I'm reminded of that great 'Far Side' comic with a group of Vikings who've just come from pillaging some poor village. Their leader is standing between their beached boat and a sheepish looking Viking saying something like "Everyone, Erik here was in charge of the tide charts. He has something to say to you all..."
Eh, maybe you had to be there.

Mammuthus, do you regularly rummage through the bins, looking for tasty morsels that have been discarded?

Bossel, I notice that justzisguy wrote an entry on the Organ about the same time that you suggested that I should. Let's wait and see does he submit it for Peer Review.
