A Conversation for Talking Point: On Being Late

Meetings (at w*rk)

Post 1

Titania (gone for lunch)

I used to w*rk at a place where we had an agreement.

Either turn up for a meeting in time, or send someone to stand in for you, or inform one of those attending the meet *before* it starts that you won't be able to make it.

If you can't make it in time, don't bother showing up.

The bottom line being that if you're late for a meeting, you consider the thing that held you up utterly more important than whatever issues will be brought up during the meeting.

After the first few meetings when people were told to leave the room because they arrived late, everyone got really good at being there on time.

See, usually people *don't* have anything way more important to do, they just need to get their priorities right.

I guess it's really the same about meeting up with someone in your private time - if they can't be bothered to show up on time or inform you that they're late, they've got something way more important to do than meeting you.
