Hello, and welcome to h2g2. Thank you for submitting this entry.
Perhaps, with a little editing your contribution might find its way into this Edited Guide entry, to bring it up-to-date a little.
A471269 - A Selection of Roman Restaurants.
I love your descriptions of food btw.
Would you take a look at our <./>writing-guidelines</.> as well, so that you are clear as to what Peer Review, and the Edited Guide are all about?

Help! I dined in the "Fontana Vecchia" at the end of 0ctober. What should I update? Sorry if I sound a bit stupid, but maybe I am. Ciao.

Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Nov 18, 2009
no, you are not stupid at all
If you click on this A471269 link, you will see a previous article about Roman restaurants. As we have a rule to only include one item about any one subject, I thought your new piece would be a very useful addition to the existing one. It would extend it, and update it
Your piece needs a bit of work to bring it in line with our <./>writing-guidelines</.> but that is what the <./>scouts</.> and the Sub-Editors are here for - to help you!
{clicking on any of the underlined words will take you to another page of explanation.}
If you like, I can go through your article and help you to edit it?

Perhaps a title change would clear up any confusion. Maybe it's a little long but something like "Restaurants in the 'Castelli' towns of Rome Province" would avoid any confusion with the city of Rome (the other Entry focusses on restaurants in the city).
Welcome to h2g2 and I'll leave you to be assisted by the scout Lanzababy to avoid any contradictory advice

Yes, thanks, please. I would be grateful if you could suggest any modification you demm appropriate, which I fully endorse. Thank you also for indicating that the text should reflect the location of the "Castelli Romani" in the Province of Rome.

Okay here goes!
There are seven "Castelli" (castles) towns surrounding Rome, i.e. Colonna, Frascati, Grottaferrata, Monte Porzio Catone, Montecompatri, Rocca di Papa and Rocca Priora. All other towns which claim to be part of the Castelli are {liars}.
Instead of {liars} I suggest {not being entirely truthful}
>>>and some you {shoulden't get nearer than a ten foot pole}.
{shouldn't get closer to than with a ten foot pole}
Make a new paragraph here please Vittorio - it makes it easier to read.
>>>Menus vary although {typiclly}
{typically}
Another new paragraph
>>>{Botted} Frascati wine
{Bottled}
>>>>>Red Castelli wine is on the upswing -{^a^} good sign.
add the missing {a} where shown
>>>>I've found a place which differs.
In this Guide, we don't use the first person (I) but you can easily change it to
{There is a place which differs}
>>>{Ther} is an incredible variety of starters
typing mistake {There}
>>>pine {nutes},
pin {nuts}
>>>a couple of tons of {othe} spices and tuna
{other}
>>>The wine {I }had was "vino della casa"
The wine {this researcher} had
New paragraph
When artichokes (carciofi) are in season between October and March, have them deep fried, stewed or "alla giudia" (jewish style). {I had also a wonderful dessert, at least that's the sensation it left me with. But as a dumbo, I can't remember the name nor how it was made. A bit too much of Montecompatri doc. }
{There was also a wonderful dessert}
(I'm afraid you will have to omit the personal reminiscences, however lovely)
New paragraph
The cost per person? Around 35 euro, depending mostly on the amount and quality of wine one drinks. A bottle of Brunello di Montalcino would easily cost around 100 euros, The place is called "Fontana Vecchia" (old fountain) and it is in Via di Fontana Vecchia in Frascati. Dinner only. Booking is not only welcome, but also a must.
New paragraph
Ciao
All in all, not many errors with your typing and English. It has made me very hungry to read all those lovely descriptions of food and wine.
We have smileys for a lot of things here, so
and good luck with making the editing changes.
Please ask if you can't understand what I mean and I will try to be clearer. It may help if you have your article open in one window and the Peer Review conversation open in another, that way you can work through the changes one by one.

they are just my way of sign posting each bullet point - or correction that I have noticed.
(it isn't possible at the moment to write bullet points in these posting)
Please come back, if you need clarification. I will be back online this evening.

Thanks, scout. I've updated the contribution. I'm almost sure I haven't missed anything. By the way, would it be possible to write antother contribution on the same subject? Different restaurant of course. I would be forced to stop there because I haven't yet found a third restaurant worth mentioning. But can't other researchers write on the same subject? Ciao

Hi, Vittorio -
If you're keen on just writing about individual restaurants, you can certainly do that for the Edited Guide.
But an alternative - where you could include the personal anecdotes and everything - would be to write a review for the "Our Man in Milliways" series that runs in <./>ThePost</.>, our very own community newspaper!
Here's the archive for the series, so you can see what the style is like: A35813676

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Nov 19, 2009
Writing "this Researcher" isn't any better than writing "I". It's still first person writing and should be reworded.
A59244861 - Restaurants in the "Casteiil" (Rome)
Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Nov 19, 2009
Gnomon - I admit that I personally dislike the use of the phrase 'this researcher'
Could you suggest a rewording for our Italian author please?
Also,(Gnomon and Mala) what do you think should be done with this piece now?

Lanzababy: re "I" or "the researcher". Can I suggest the phrase starts with "The wine..." without any subsequent mention of "I" or "The researcher"? Unfortunately I can't retrive (don't know how to) the text I've submitted, otherwise I whoud have had a go on my own. Ciao

Vittorio - your suggestion will be fine I am sure. Can you see the edit button next to your article now?
(I can see the whole of the article, with the edits you have already made, so it may have been a glitch that has sorted itself out)

Well done Vittorio!
If you click on * <./>smileys</.> * you will come to the section where all our smileys are listed. We have many to use on h2g2, I think we like them a lot!
You can also get to the smiley page by clicking on any smiley that you see.
I think the spelling/typos have mostly been taken care of - but next you have to change the double ["] quote marks that you have used for single quote marks [']
Then read and check again that you have not lost any spaces between words, caused by editing eg
>> mushrooms(the menu <<<
(there are a few that I have spotted)
>>>shoulden't <<<
replace with shouldn't

Hi again,
I hope you're enjoying working on this article (which I'm sure makes everybody feel like sampling some of the delights you mention).
As I said earlier, I wouldn't like to confuse things with additional advice about the best approach and wording for your entry. I do however have two comments about the content of the article.
1. You said "There are seven "Castelli" (castles) towns surrounding Rome, ......"
I think this sounds a little as though the towns circle Rome. Thus I suggest you replace the word 'surrounding' by 'near'
2. ".... The wine was "vino della casa" a white Montecompatri doc sold by the carafe. Not bad."
I suggest 'doc' be written DOC so that it is more recognisable as an abbreviation for English readers, perhaps adding '(Denominazione di Origine Controllata)' or '(quality rating)'. This explanation between parentheses could be transformed into a footnote later.
I also suggest you wait for a second opinion before implementing my suggestions (if you think they are worthwhile), especially the second suggestion which some people may find unnecessary.

Done, but I was not able to change the " on the subject. I was pleasantly surprised by your knowledge of italian and of wine acronyms (DOC). Salute, cin cin! (smile). I have found the smileys page, but I can't manage to get them on this page. Pazienza. Thanks to you and Lanzababy for your help.
Ciao

Much better Vittorio . Now, I hope for the views of other Scouts and Sub-editors. Or even our BBC editors themselves.
As to smileys - they are only allowed in conversations, not in Guide Entries.
to make a simple one you type < smiley > but without the spaces
Run your cursor over any you see and you can read the code.
I hope this helps.
