The reference to Sarandon and Robbins was mainly just general, but also I saw Susan Sarandon walk across the stage at the Oscars and give a peace sign as she did - which meant more coming from her than from many others! They're great, her and Tim Robbins...

Has anyone ever wondered what happened to the Poison Dwarf, Ruth Richardson? I heard her on the World Service on a prog called 'People in Politics', she's in the UK, trying to Ruthanase the NHS. Nooooo!!!! Do they know what they've let themselves in for?

That's one of the times I was screaming at the radio... which since the radio is a Walkie and I was on my way to the shopping mall on my own (Jimmy was at Armageddon the Expo of pulp culture. He went to the Doctor Who convention on at the same time, he said Armageddon was way too crowded...)Well, screaming at the radio in the street of a Saturday morning, made me look pretty I can tell you!
Kia Ora/G'day Two: today we will be four
six7s Posted Apr 23, 2003
According to StatsNZ or whatever they call themselves - today is the day that the population of NZ will pass the four million mark
Interestingly, in contrast with what W*nst*n P*t*rs has been spewing, migration has had little impact
The 3 million mark was passed in 1973 and the prediction is that the population will peak at 4.81 million in 2046
This link is so long and ugly, it just has to be a .govt site
http://www.stats.govt.nz/domino/external/pasfull/pasfull.nsf/web/Media+Release+New+Zealand+Population+To+Reach+4+Million+April+2003?open
although it looks ok in preview mode, just in case it *breaks*...

The entry is currently at A1038737 and its working title is 'New Zealand Language' althought there have been suggestions to change that
I've added my , twice

He was? He's mad as a snake, the idea is apparently that as the Government caused the power crisis, we should waste all we like, and let the Govt stew in it. All I know is - we didn't have water and power shortages before Rogernomics...
Also, I have my own Guide entry on New Zild Language (which I don't want to submit for peer review, because I am a wuss.)

Speaking ot NZ language, I told someone on another thread that mixing ice cream with fizzy was called a spider when I was growing up (the Americans call it float). Did anyone else use the word spider? Is it still in use? What about in Australia?

Re the power crisis - Mike Hoskings has just introduced 'Sunday' by saying that NZ has so much coal that we never have to have a cold shower again. And that the only thing stopping us from utilising the coal to make electricity is political will (never mind things like global warming and destruction of local ecosystems, and that eventually _all_ the coal will run out). I had to turn it off at that point. There goes my hope that 'Sunday" might actually turn out to have some journalisitic worth. *sigh*
I did miss Leighton Smith this week though
Pam Corkery seems to think we should use as much electricity as we want to, to narc the govt too (mind you she still can't understand why some people don't like passive smoking, so there you go).

The nearest BP station has solar pannels over the canopy (roof bit above the pumps). Their sign claims that the solar pannels provide enough power for 6 houses. Maybe they could require pannels on every building above a certain height to suppliment power usage.

I have always called them 'spiders' - they can be quite delicious!
Re the power crisis - everyone I hear has a different theory on why! We've implemented all the savings measures years ago..Clothes driers turn clothes to cardboard! So what can we do?
