Little entry about one of my favourite paintings.
Oh, depending on who you ask, it's sometimes called 'Smiling Woman' too, but I don't suppose it matters that much!
(The Tate calls it 'Woman Smiling' and it's their painting, so I guess they should know...)

hmm... the arts people are on holidays, so it seems . If you can stand an electronics guy commenting here then I'll try my best
I followed your instructions to find the painting. It says 'not available due to copyright restrictions' Hee hee, they want us to pay the entrance fee rather than see the picture online.
Anyway, you could have linked directly to the URL of the painting by adding the 'servlet/AWork?id=6739' part to it
As to the entry itself: I don't see any problems with this one getting into the Edited Guide

Humpf. It was there when I wrote the article!
Guess I'll have to amend that bit. I deliberately didn't link directly to it in case the Tate played with their web-site. I didn't think they'd take it off completely tho!
You'll just have to go to the gallery. (free admission tho )

Hi Cabby,
I've been given your fabulous entry to subedit and I've just finished the first steps, namely putting in some more links. It is located at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A622522, just in case you'd like to have a look...
One question, tho: is it actually true that John changed his lifestyle in 18xx after having a DIVING accident? I didn't find evidence for this on the web and my first thought was that this is a typo and that it could have possibly been a DRIVING accident?

Nope, it's diving. He was diving into the sea on holiday in Pembrokeshire in 1897 and hit his head on the rocks.
I would post some links but they'd only get modded anyway, but a web search on "Alexander John" and diving should turn up a few.
Key: Complain about this post
