well while my sister was still alive (she died last christmass) we wnet to london to some science lab to see if they could do anything for her. and way while we where there for two weeks waighting for results of the tests, we went off to see the sights and we went in to harods, now the acsess is amzing, the lifs are esally big enough there are ramps up to the doors and all sorts, but the staff, well they basically looked at us as if we had just crwled off the cottem of their shoe. we deffinatly where not "their sort of peaple" now later on in the week we went back without my sister (she was having more telts) the same womeen was on the door and she was nice and friendly towors us so I can only gess she objected to the wheel chair.
the restof london veried, the older parts of it that are still cobbled where trubble some. and a few shops diddent have easy acess for wheel chares. but the majer differance was that the staff seemed willing tohelp, againe in most places, it wasnt only harads that we had a bad experance with staff but that is the shop I remeber

Harrods has always been very friendly with us (hubby in a chair), the biggest problem is just the numbers of people. My one gripe is with the layout of the shop meaning we are always getting lost (usually on the way to the toy dept) and having to retrace our steps after coming up against a (wheelchair) deadend. The staff have always been helpful but wary - I don't think they get much training - and if you ask for help you get it.
I think the staff are more influenced by you're attitude than anything else - we always pretend we are minted when shopping in harrods (despite usually popping over to McDonalds for dinner) and I have a feeling that it shows.
The disabled toilet (im pretty sure there is only one) is always clean and available and (unlike the ordinary toilets which cost £1) is totally free. Because of this I'm sure the toilet attendant thinks that my hubby has a problem when its just that I'm too tight to pay to use the other loos.
