The h2g2 Poem: A Party?

A Party?
"Come along. Please gather round.
No, Susie you won't drown!
Jason, don't do that, it isn't nice.
Stop it. I won't ask you twice!
Oh dear, Jackie, you're such a mess...
Yes, I'm sure mummy can clean that dress!"
"Tommy! Please wash your hands and face.
No! Don't wipe toffee on my old lace...
Ah! Too late, no doubt;
Yes, I was silly to leave them out.
Jason, please don't frighten Cilla.
No, you haven't eaten a caterpillar."
"Please don't chase the cat!
Yes, I know you've spilt juice upon the mat!
Thingy... I told you not to climb!
Good Heavens! Is that the time?
Get your coats on. Hide these quick...
Eat them when you get home, and don't be sick!"
"Snapping from my reverie;
My daughter is asking me...
"Can we have a party for Hallowe'en?"
Not that I'm really so mean...
"I've thought about it hard, my dear;
And it would be better left for another year."
