Thanks for the nudge lil, I'd forgotten all about it. I've trawled through the EG and added some links, with a few to outside sites as well.

"The orginal Mac OS system was the first GUI OS for home PCs, and introduced things like multiple windows and the trash can. These ideas were later pinched by MS for Windows (they were also pinched by DR for GEM, but MS's laywers are much more frighterning than DR's)"
No, they weren't. they were invented at Xerox PARC laboratories. Apple saw them, borrowed the ideas and then went about suing the arse off anybody who dared to do the same; the notorious 'look and feel suits' of the early 90's. This was the reason that Windows 3.0 had a rather clunky user interface compared to the Mac until Windows 95 came along.
Get *your* facts right before correcting other people's.

DR's Gem originally had a trash can, but the 2nd version didn't because Apple sued.
However windows was able to add one in in their later versions
likewise, Gem 1 could do multple windows, but the later version couldn't thanks to apple. MS's lawyers let allowed windows to use a bunch of these features that were formally in Gem, because they scared Apple's law people

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

I was getting confused with the entry on Operating Systems, and the various updates that have been attempted of it.
Well done!
