My 12 pounder flies all the time.
He is a leaper. He lept on my shoulders last night when I didn't give him enough attention. Then he settled in around my neck just as he did when he was a kitten and went to sleep.

So you do have a flying cat.
Ours got into a fracas with the dog last night. My fault. I thought they were sleeping and used the laser pointer...
When they all pile into the area around the glowing target, they start getting territorial.
