Of all the...

A couple (ok, three) points:

* Being under 40, I have enjoyed several milkshakes from our family's Hamilton Beach machine (we've got a pastel white one) served in the aluminium cup.

* Maybe Pennsylvania is different than the rest of the world, but we have ice cream shops, diners and restaurants all over the state serving 'real' milkshakes. I'm willing to admit that the dairy industry is pretty big here and that might be a factor, but still...

* This is a totally brilliant yarn and well worthy of going into the Edited Guide at the earliest possible moment. (Something like four or five weeks for an established writer like you I reckon! smiley - winkeye)

Cheers! smiley - ok

Thanks Jimi. Good info smiley - bigeyes

A question. Can you get hokey pokey ice-cream in Pennsylvania? (America/elsewhere). Historically, I've always understood it to be an uniquely NZ flavour. (In more recent years the Aussies stole the recipe)

I'm afraid the hokey-pokey in America (well Pennsylvania at least smiley - winkeye) is an unfortunate dance in which the dancers make a circle and put various body parts 'into' the ring and shake them all about. They then turn themselves around before returning to the starting position.

The caller sings something like this:
'You put your arms in,
You put your arms out.
You put your arms in
And you shake them all about.
You do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about.'

Very odd really, but a popular wedding song and with small children.

One other minor point in your entry -
'cold milk, preferably fresh from a Jersey' meaning (one would presume) that the cows in NZ give cole milk? smiley - winkeye I've got to visit that place!! smiley - smiley

Cheers!

- X

Swiv my dear, please pay attention. Your concerns are covered in the footnotes smiley - bigeyes

In short, yes, but you may want to change the liqueur to more suit your choice of ice-cream.

Jimi, I believe the dance is the Hokey Tokey. NZ Jersey's only supply cold milk in winter. In summer you have to put your milking container in the fridge for a couple of hours before making your milkshake smiley - bigeyes

It's the Hokey Cokey in England. Or at least in Birmingham - it seems to vary around the country. smiley - smiley

Two weeks isn't too long to wait now is it? smiley - winkeye

I guess it's better than the old queue system of two months, but I agree it still seems silly for an entry to sit virtually unchanged for a fortnight out of a sense of democracy. smiley - devil

Sorry I'll behave myself now...

This entry has been selected for inclusion into the Edited Guide. Congratulations!
