h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The Guide has an entry on "Sticks", and some other entries on various types of sticks, but none on walking sticks. I think this is actually a fairly important situation to remedy, so I've done my best in this article.

Just a few ideas from the back of my (drunken) head:

Any ideas/references to a bishop's whatever-stick? They seem to be related. The same for James Bond 007 equipment, cameras and fierce weaponry built into walking sticks spring into mind.

In Germany there are people who are proud of all the badges they've gathered from some kind of walking contests. These badges are designed to be nailed to walking sticks (ie, rounded off rather than flat), and experienced walkers (usually in the 60-7x year ages) proudly show around their sticks.

Just suggestions from the other half of my brain, otherwise I wonder why you didn't put up this entry straight away to the PR !

Thanks for the suggestion on walking stick decorations. Now that I think about it, carving and painting also go with walking sticks.

And suggestions like this are why I make my entries go to Writer's Workshop first.

As for bishop-sticks, I always figured they were more like shepherd-sticks, which is a separate topic entirely. (Though I have successfully used walking sticks to herd puppies...)
