Ever wondered what a "gimmer" was, or the difference between a lamb and a ewe? Here is the chance to find out what all those strange terms mean - from cow to stag, hen to steer. Now when you start off singing Old MacDonald you can truly amaze and astound your fellows who will think you are country born and bred.

Err, yes -- this server has its quirks and doesn't show when it already accepted a posting. Hitting the 'Post Message' button again produces another posting, something that already got a name of its own: 'double-posting'.

I'm just writing this because you're yet another victim of the special behaviour of this here server and because any comments on this entry should go to the other thread at

Hmmm. Bossel (congrats on being a new scout like myself BTW smiley - bubbly) the link to the deleted article from the scout forum went to the other thread as being deleted not this one.

To save any confusion, I shall repeat my comment from the other thread (so it remains whichever thread gets removed).

Wow!

An incredibly factual and informative entry - couldn't really fault it myself smiley - smiley

Is mise Duncan

The entry could do with being laid out with headers and subheaders to improve readability. To do this you will need to convert the entry to GuideML and put the headers between tags and the subheaders between tags.

Content wise its a sure fire guide essential, IMO.

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

Very interesting... and educational too!

It would be a bonus, I think, if you could say a word or two about the extent to which these terms are internationally recognized.

Good stuff!

You can call me TC

Very good idea. Very useful reference - even if only for Trivial Pursuit!

The terms all apply to animals - do you intend to write an equivalent piece for the agricultural side of farmng, or isn't there anything to know about that?

I agree with Duncan. The article is fine and complete as it stands, except for some visual tidying up, which you can leave to a subeditor whose boss doesn't mind what he does when he's paying him!
