This is a great start and I'll come back and make some more detailed comments later. For now, though:
1) apnea should not be capitalised
2) pertussis is increasingly a problem in young adults as well. there have been several outbreaks among high school and college age people here in the Seattle area. there have been talks of starting to revaccinate people for pertussis, as the immunity from the childhood vaccination begins to wane in adolescence. even though the pertussis infections in young adults are generally not serious, they have the ability to pass the infection on to the unimmunized or immunocompromised.

Mikey - Thanks, thought i'd already caught the apnoea capitalisation, must have seen it and forgotten to correct it.
Re: adults, in many ways i'd like to stay away from the immunisation debate (a massive entry or 3 on it's own). I'll try and work adults in without trying to get bogged down in it.

I like this article, nicely written and informative.
My sister had whooping cough when we were young. My mother didn't vaccinate us against it as the news claimed at the time that eczema sufferers could get brain damage from using it. Hence my sister caught it - very nasty.
I would like to see this get into the guide. It seems pretty complete to me.

Wow! Just the right stuff for the Guide
BTW, there were times when h2g2 had a Medical Team... what happened to them?

* back from researching and scouting *
The h2g2 Medical Team used to live at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U116739, but the place is far from alive
But at least, their entries are there

As nobody seems to want any changes, whats the next stage?

You have to wait for a scout to recommend it. When one of us does then the italics either say yea or nae. If its a yea then we will close off this thread and then it will be sent off to a subeditor. When they have done with it, it wil be edited by a senior editor and then be queued for its debut on the front page.
The reccomending *can* take some time though. Us scouts only get a very limited number of picks once a month. Personally I've got quite a while before I can make my next picks.
I don't think you've got too many worries with this article, just sit tight
