in the beginning yo ucall both types of lines "unbroken" little typo that may be difficult for a sub-ed to figure out without personal knowledge or research... also you may want to include the name Pa Kua (or however you choose to spell it) as what those eight trigrams are called... I love the subject though and will reccomend it as soon as it's cleaned up a bit and been through the obligatory peer reviewing process... keep up the good work

Thanks for catching the typo. It is now fixed. I'll have to see about adding the Trigrams in the entry somewhere. I left them out since I would feel the need for them to be illustrated. It could get pretty monotomous describing the three lines for each trigram.

Hi Zen,

I saw your post at the Freedom from Faith Foundation the other day - thought I'd come along and give you some feedback...

First of all, I'm reading this from the intelligent layperson's viewpoint, rather than as someone with any background knowledge of the I Ching (another one of those dusty old books that I never got around to reading smiley - winkeye ). From that perspective, your article seems to give a good, wide-ranging introduction to the subject, and useful hints on how to get started with it in a practical sense. I also liked the historical angle.

One thing I might suggest is giving an *example* of how the system works. I know you explain it, and give a pretty comprehensive set of instructions. But I think an illustration would give a flavour of what it's actually like to use the I Ching - might inspire folks like me to pick up the book and have a go for ourselves. Right now I don't get too much of a sense that this is something I would actually want to participate in myself, although I get the general drift.

I can't think of any other gripes. Maybe a conclusion would sit well at the end? Apart from that - good luck, I'm sure it'll make it through Peer Review... smiley - smiley

Take care,

Lear

PS - another typo... your subheading "Consulting the I Ching: Yarrow Sticks Method" starts with "Conuslting"

I fixed the other found typo, thanks Lear.

Adding a sample reading is a capital idea! I think it would make a great addition to the entry.

I fully agree with ZenMondo smiley - smiley

Add an example (or perhaps, insert a link to the full list of answers) and this will make a great addition to the Guide smiley - ok

A few typos:
therefore concieved of the .. -> conceived the
tirgrams, preperations, sitcks -> trigrams, preparations, sticks

Footnote 3 should be rephrased: I understand that all persons of authority were facing South?

Finally, steps 4..8 of the 'coins' method could be dropped since they are repeating steps 14..18 of the yarrow method.

can't fault it.

I fixed the typos and misspellings. Thanks for catching them. I'll think about making the footnote clearer. I tend to want to keep the steps in the coin method even though they repeat steps in the yarrow method for completeness.
