this entry serves two puropses (actually a few more)
first it is there to teach people who were raised on spaceships or the like how to peel an orange
second it is meant as a humorous attempt at describing the every day zen experiences that take the place of ritual and prayer in my own personal religion. despite the fact that it is my own and personal, i still think it could bear significance to others.
i would love to see it categorized under both food and religion or philosophy.
any input would be greatly appreceated on how to give it proper formatting and the like.
cheers, schurem

If you want nicer formatting, try using GuideML.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A395552
Also begin sentences with an uppercase letter. Please. I got a bit of a head ache reading your entry.
Try to refrain from using first person, like in your last paragraph. In "because juice spillage is inevitable during the process i described in the above paragraphs", just drop the "i". Similarly for "as they will be infuriated by having to watch the methodology i've just described".
The content is nice, in a zen-like calm kind of way.

thanks for the criticism
i've put proper capitals in for your reading pleasure, even though (as you might see) that does not come very natural to me
i will be trying to put in proper GuideML code in later on, but at the moment i lack both the ability to concentrate and will to do that. it is neccessary isn't it?
peace, and sweet fruits,
schurem

What a nice little piece. I often wondered why I have unusual stains on my trousers, now I know.
Ta.

Nice, very GML'ed. But why have a after each ? Not only is it non-conformative (an overly negative sounding word perhaps), but GuideML focuses on describing content, not layout.
I think that's my final nitpick.

It's a bit more complicated than that. If a Scout likes the Entry, s/he can recommend it to the Editors. If the Editors think it's worthy, the Entry becomes "Recommended". It is sent to a Sub-Editor. That Sub-Ed then edits the Entry, and when s/he's done it goes back to the Editors so they can maybe do some minor tweaks. At this stage, they might even add graphics. The Entry is now "Pending". When everything is finished, it's up on the front page; it's become "Edited".
Wow. The life cycle of an Entry. At least this is how I ~think~ they do it. Should be mostly correct...

ages as in hours? weeks? months? years? millenia? eons?
well this IS like the guide as DNA described it in his books :D
probably my entry will get reduced to: peeling oranges can be a zen-experience.
anyway, thanks for putting me on track, i really enjoy being part of the guide!

Lovely!
Here's an alternate method you might want to include, for those who are SERIOUSLY adverse to eating the bitter bits, and only like the sweet pulpy part, the jewel in the lotus.
This method does not require such care when peeling. One needn't worry about removing the stringy white stuff, as the approach is from the opposite side.
1) Nibble the center as if you're going to remove seeds.
2) With the fingernails, spread the membranes apart. This will cause the pulp to pop out--easy access. Be gentle or juice will run down your wrists to the elbows. This is only a good thing if your sharing with an intimate friend who's willing to lick it off.
3) Slurrrrrrrp! Throw away the membrane and move on to the next segment....
Note: not recommended as a method for public consumption, as it looks a mite barbaric to devour innocent citrus in this manner. But it's the best way to get at the good stuff.

typically western consumerism: a way of getting only the good part while throwing away the rest. i bet it's a quick way of doing so too
the membranes in and around the parts contain many vitamins and the fibers they are composed of are very healthy for your bowels.
i'm sorry if i sounded a bit harsh, i've been drinking black coffee again

Woah, you replied so fast I missed it. It could take weeks or even months for an Entry to get Recommended. I wrote one this January, for example, and it was Recommended a few weeks ago. The horror! oooooh... scaaaaary...

Really nice entry, just the right amount of detail
and a curiously interesting subject.
I like this, but I might leave it to Linus unless I can't find others for my picks

You'll be glad to know that we think this entry is great, and it has now gone into the Editorial Process for future inclusion in the Edited Guide. When it does get into the Edited Guide, we will email to let you know, but please bear in mind it can take a while for entries to go through the sub-editing system.
Congrats, and cheers
Linus
