I'm back, I'm back. Up to my kneck in the brown runny stuff for the past three weeks. Promises made, albums to be listened to, trips to be taken, courses to be done, books to studied, two weddings, people to be found and money to be coaxed out of them...

Right, I will sort all the afore mentioned out before the end of the week.

Peace and chicken grease.

Let grasses grow and waters flow in a free and easy way
But give me enough of the rare old stuff they make near Galway Bay
The gougers all from Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim too
We'll give them the slip and we'll take a sip of the real old mountain dew

Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly ay day
Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly idle day

At the foot of the hill is a neat little still where the smoke curls up to the sky
By a whiff of the smell you can plainly tell there's poitín, boys, close by
For it fills the air with a perfume rare and betwixt both me and you
As home we roll we can drink a bowl or a bucketful of mountain dew

Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly ay day
Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly idle day

Oh learned men who wield the pen have wrote the praises high
Of the sweet poitín from Ireland green distilled from wheat and rye
Away with pills! It will cure all ills of the pagan, the Christian or Jew
So take off your coat and grease your throat with the real old mountain dew

Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly ay day
Hi the diddly idle dol, diddly idle doodle dol, diddly ay di diddly idle day.

Done and done.

Yet, I would love to get a hammer and keep hitting this entry until it stopped moving.

*sighs*

That would be lovely

Alright, we can probably leave minor things for a sub (like spelling/typos)

should "Poitín? Sure what would I know about that." be Not sure instead of sure?

and you still have two "to put it simply"s in the first line - is this intentional/done for effect? or could it be changed?

smiley - biggrin glad you're back with us

To explain the whole "Sure" thingymajig. In rural Ireland alot of the older generations use the word "sure" a lot. Par exemple, "Sure amn't I fine", "Sure isn't it a lovely day", "Sure don't I know all their family" and that is actually a direct quote from a fella who lives in my area who also gave me the ingredients for the mix.

And the two "put it simply"'s is done for effect but I'll change it if it isn't working.

Glad to be back, my brother from another mother.smiley - biggrin

Maybe change it to "Sure, what would I know about that" as I think that's more how it's spoken, and shows the 'sure' is a turn of phrase rather than a mistake on your part.

Em . . . Most large towns and city's > cities

Would you like to include "the real old mountain dew" (lyrics above) in the text? It's out of copyright, we can be pretty sure of that.

I take mild exception to the stage Irishry of footnote 5: "Water of life. How Irish can you get."

Not Irish at all. Aqua Vitae to the ancient Romans and modern Scandinavians http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/schnapps-and-aquavit_index.html
Eau de Vie to the French . . . the very word "spirits" reeks of animism.

"... Also, do not be getting drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but keep getting filled with spirit."

Ephesians 5:18, New World Translation.

Nice one! The King James version is "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit" -- same message, the toper's charter smiley - stiffdrink

The next verses are about wives submitting themselves to their husbands.

Right thats sorted out.

I'll throw in "the Rare Old Mountain Dew" words when I have time.

A combonation of a late work appointment, an ill advised attempt at the splits this weekend and a mate of mine accidentaly sucker punching me have... tested my time.smiley - brave

"that will just get you, sorry them, drunk again Remember" - you might explain how the drinker would become drunk again. Oh, and you're lacking a full stop. I love this entry. smiley - smiley
