I'm not really here

From the menopause until 60/65 - that's the section you need to pay attention to. smiley - smiley Drink skimmed milk, there is more calcium in it. Get out in the sun as much as you can. Walk swinging your arms. smiley - smiley good luck.

There was an article in New Scientist recently covering the theory that a diet high in acid-forming foods (hard cheeses, meat, grain) could be a significant contributing factor in osteoporosis. Apparently, calcium is drawn from the skeleton to help neutralise the acidity formed in the brekdown of the food.
Milk, vegetables and fruit were supposed to be healthy, and moderation with cheese, meat and grain was fine.

In one study, postmenopausal women taking sodium bicarbonate supplements showed 25% less calcium loss in their urine than control subjects, and in some countries with a 'good' diet based upon the above criteria, but where calcuim intake was less than a third of the recommended level, the prevalence of osteoporosis is very low.
