A Conversation for Musical Notes

Late Night Line Up

So the late night prom - it's jazz, this year?

I only really catch the odd televised prom, but I remember the Nigel Kennedy/Jeff Beck 'Disaster Area' prom last year - Radio 3 listeners must have thought they were extracting a confession from a demented walrus.

smiley - cheerup Icy,

There are a number of late-night Proms this year. Last Saturday's was a jazz one: a performance of Stan Tracey's 'Genesis'.

On 18 August, the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain are playing arrangements of music as varied as Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' via 'The Dambusters' March' to The Who and The Sex Pistols! Must be something in there for you.

On 25 August there is a Prom of music by film-music composer Michael Nyman: 'The Draughtsman's Contract', 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover' etc.

Those ukuleles sound unmissable! I may be on holiday then, unfortunately. Thanks for all the tips, though.

Oh, did you spot any good Baroque violiny stuff in there? Madame North enjoys that sort of thing smiley - smiley

No, in fact now you've drawn my attention to it, there is a complete absence this year of Vivaldi, Corelli, Gabrielli and Scarlatti - not a smiley - musicalnote between them smiley - sigh
