Would you mind a bit of BB King on the CD?
Still a few days 2 go, so you don't get a yet, but I'm working on a card,
Party on, regardless, and here's a to hold you until the big day, when you'll get lots of

Thanks...put on whatever you want...there's ages to go, thank heavens, I definitely do not want to turn 13...hope you have fun here, and do you want to join the PARTAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY thread where all the action's going on?

taliesin Posted May 10, 2001
Thanks. I think I have a spare lampshade around here somewhere -- to 'put on'
And there are definite advantages to being 13. You're old enough to speak your mind and be acknowledged, yet young enough so you can still get away with being a kid!
Yeah, party on... count me in, although I'll likely pass out in a corner by the time things really get crazy

Right...well, you put on your lampshade then...
Hmmm...I suppose so...did yu like it? Everyone makes a fuss though because you're a "teenager" and apparently that's so "special" or some other s***
Would you like a drink???

taliesin Posted May 11, 2001
(hic!) No shanks, I'm not under the afluence of inkahol. I'm jober as a shudge (hic!)
*bumping into wall because lampshade covers eyes*
Ouch!
In RL, I'm not much of a drinker. One or two after a couple of hot hours of yardwork, and that's it! If I drink any more, I either get a headache or go to
However, I can handle any number of virtual , or even
Being 13 was I lived in a rural part of BC, and had great fun wandering about in the forest, or irritating people with questions such as 'how far is up?'
People make a fuss about someone they care about becoming a teen, and maybe that's because they do care, and think the person is special. Maybe another reason is a cultural legacy, like many of the ceremonies and feast days we humans have.
Ahem: *goes into speculative mode*
In former times, when life expectancy was low, and childhood mortality was high, people were naturally happy when a young member of the community managed to make it to 13 In many ancient, primitive cultures, special, sometimes rather horrific, rites were performed, including giving the person a new name, and new status.
*goes out of spec mode*
Anyway, you are special, are you not? I don't mean in a conceited, arrogant way, but the fact of you, as you, is inarguably special, and is reason enough for celebration every day, whatever age you happen to be!
So, happy birthday, Niwt

Urgh I'm glad I don't have to go through any horrific rites! Except for my friends teasing me (they've all been there, done that, or rather still doing that) but that's allowable because I teased all of them!!
And I am (still just) 12, but I have had many many virtual 's, in fact I've even been virtually drunk.
Thanks.

Hi there, teenager
Sorry I haven't called by recently, been very busy both on h2g2 and in RL.
No doubt you know the h2g2 reason, but here is a synopsis on my RL of late:
Treating an injured horse. helping euthanize a dying rescue hedgehog. repairing a piece of s**t car. helping my sister who just broke her arm a few days ago... and other stuff always seems to pop up, so I have had little time for visiting friends.
On the good side, I now have a dedicated Internet phone line, so I won't have to stay up until 1 or 2 AM to get web work done
Anyway, there's no reason why your virtual party has to end any time real soon, is there?
I was up late last night making sure the flood of newbies were properly greeted... (most were!) So I won't be on line much tonite, as I want to catch up on my
BFN, and I'll talk to you later... Let me know how your RL birthday turned out -- what presents/cards/cake etc....

Your life sounds very interesting But I don't think may people really feel like partying at the moment - you know why.
IRL we managed a cake, although we could only find five candles. I got an HP t-shirt and would've got a game, except my parents delayed and they all sold out. And some relatives managed to send money as usual, so I'm very rich. My friends at school gave me some whacks as usual, I whacked them back as usual, and my lovely Dizo who set up my virtual party (she's at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U161267) gave me a piece of paper.
When's your birthday?
Louder!!!
taliesin Posted May 20, 2001
'interesting' You are a comedienne, aren't you
Anyway, I suspect DNA would have said 'party on, Niwt!', or words to that effect.
the money s sound good. What are you going to do now that you are rich? If you buy a , can I hitch a ride?
Did you get a rain check for the game? and what kind of game was it?
oh, I'm sooo nosey
My birthday is in March, so you'll have to wait a while before you can 'whack' me
I now have a separate data line installed, so I can vist h2g2 at more reasonable hours. Finally I am catching up on my sleep
I'm also getting another computer soon to supplement my ageing notebook. I think I'll install the Linux OS as well as Win 98. I wonder what it will be like to work with a REAL operating system
I am finally working on my first Guide entry ( subject is a secret until its completed!), and finishing off my portion of a University Research Project. Wish me luck!

Why louder?
And your life does sound interesting, and why am I a comedienne as opposed to a comedien?
No, I am going to buy an aeroplane (if only). I think I'll buy something hitch-hiker related, and put the rest in the bank towards my flying lessons...
I don't know if I'll get the game or not. And it's a HP Quidditch game.
And I am even nosier than you.
Birthdays don't usually bring many 's for me, but I'm happy with that because Christmas is great...last Xmas I got a Swiss Army Knife, really cool, I've sliced my fingers about 978 times since then...whoops...
March? Oh, sorry, I missed it Just you wait till next year
Ooh so you're going to be a Field Researcher? Tell me when it's all done and I'll go and see it.
BTW, if you get a chance you can visit my space again, I've re-done it again, I like it
There was another thing I urgently had to say to you except I can't for the life of me remember!
Louder!!!
taliesin Posted May 22, 2001
Why not? -- louder, that is. Because I still can't hear the stereo rock on!
comedienne is a female comedian, altho this is considered not 'politically correct' now, just as there are no actresses, only actors...
Sometimes I think my life is interesting in the manner of the ancient Chinese curse: 'may you live in interesting times', which in ancient China usually meant it would be unpleasantly interesting. Actually, I am one of those annoying individuals who are just naturally happy most of the time -- I enjoy my own company, I guess, as well as the company of others, and, yes, I suppose my life is interesting. I think yours is, too
Especially if you are embarking on a course of flying lessons. Learning to fly is one of the many things I have not yet done that I intend to do, as soon as possible
What the heck is an HP Quiddich? Does HP stand for Hewlett Packard? House of Parliament? Highly Potent? Hugely Portenteous? What?
Forgetting stuff already, eh. That's what happens as you get older
Louder!!!
. Posted May 23, 2001
*turns up stereo/CD/thingy*
In that case, I'm a comedien
That's pretty
I've done one flying lesson already, a TIF (Trial Introductory Flight) when I was eleven, I saved up the money. Now I'm going to wait a while and do it through cadets, 'cos it's about half price through that.
I always thought you must be pretty old, and when you said you didn't go to school I knew you must be simply ancient, but you must be seriously ANCIENT if you don't know what HP is. *sigh* It's Harry Potter of course. I like that. And Quidditch is the sport they play.
Louder!!!
taliesin Posted May 23, 2001
Not ancient. Canadian.
And I have so heard about Harry Potter, so there
As a matter of fact, I remembered what Quiddich was just today... (ok, so I was in a bookstore, and saw one of the JK Rowling books)
Sheesh, even YOU forget stuff -- look at your penultimate posting to this thread!!
I admit I have never actually read any of the stories, but I promise to remedy that ASAP -- they look like fun.
Anyway, yes, I am an adult -- but I am certainly not a doddering drooler in an old folks home, fer pete's sake!!
I am a self-employed adult, living and working on a small ranch in southern British Columbia.
For the last three or four years I have not read a lot of fiction, as I have been studying computer stuff -- my poor decrepit brain just can't handle all the reading Or maybe its my weak, watery, aged eyes that just can't see without quadro-focals -- Or maybe I am just physically unable to turn book pages --
Anyway, JK Rowling's books only hit the markets in the last three years or so, according to the publishing dates, so give me a break.
And I bet I can beat you in a foot race! Or an arm wrestle
Louder!!!
taliesin Posted May 23, 2001
Speaking of racing, have you entered the Wackey Racers?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A534205
If you aren't in a car yet, try to get into the Anthill Mob's Bulletproof Bomb Cheat, if you have to
BTW, I forgot to mention that I did visit your revised intro page, and it is really rather decent. Well done
